Teams share points as Ssebwana Cup starts in Busiro.
The 1stgame of the 2024 Ggombolola Cup tournaments was no less of a thriller as teams shared points in the Busiro County tournament localized as “Ssebwana Cup.” Henry Kawombe open the scoring for visiting Ssaabawaali Kasanje in the 1st half before Wilber Mukunguzi equalized in the 2nd half, sending the hosting fans of Musaale Ssisa in celebrations and ensuring they salvage a point in the opener that ended 1:1
Speaking to the press, Musaale Ssisa’s Captain Abdulswamud Mawejje was optimistic that the tournament will give youngsters opportunities display their talent and get selected to play in other upcoming events like the Masaza, Bika and top leagues. His counterpart of Ssaabawaali Kasanje was equally grateful to the Mengo administration and further requested to the games organized in holiday for school going youngsters not to miss out on such opportunities.
Both coaches were were contented with the opener, promising to regroup and win the next encounters. “opening games are not so easy more so facing a home team with a coach who has over 30 years footballing experience but we are going back on the drawing board." Said Ssaabawaali Kasanje’s coach Meddie Lutaya. His hosting counterpart Robert Musaale trusted that his boys would deliver and said that; “Our opponents scored before us but the players did not give up they gave out the best at least for us to get a point we appreciate the kingdom for such opportunities."
According to Mr. Saddam Sebuyiira, the match coordinator, the opener was worth it with no incidents and thanked the minister, hosts, referees and teams for a great game they displayed. Ssaabawaali Kasanje Kamoga Pius (shirt 10) was announced man of the match.
The 10 Ggombololas in Busiro will play in two groups with Group A comprising of Mutuba I Masuuliita, Mutuba II Kakiri, Mutuba III Namayumba, Mumyuka Wakiso, Ssaabagabo Nsangi and playing in a Gala format on 14th February 2024 at Trinity College Nabbingo; while Group B which include Musaale Ssisa; Ssaabaddu Katabi, Ssaabawaali Kasanje, Mutuba IV Entebe Lunnyo, Mutuba V Entebbe shall play their remaining games on 21st February 2024 at Kajjansi Clays. The top 2 teams per group shall qualify for the semi finals and subsequent finals to be played on 8th March 2024, at the main grounds of the Saza in Sentema.
