Pomp as Minister opens Ggombolola football tournaments.
Oweek. Robert Serwanga Ssalongo, the Minister for Youth, Sports and the Arts has today officially kicked off the 2024 Ggombolola Cup tournament at Uganda Clays grounds Kajjansi, in Busiro County.
The glamorous day that included tours of developmental activities by Youths in the County and a display of pomp culminated in the 1st game between hosts Musaale Ssisa and Ssaabawaali Kasanje attended by over 900 fans.
4375 players are expected to participate in the competiton for the 175 sub counties (Ggombololas) of Buganda, but within their respective 18 counties, hence creating 18 Sub Tournaments named after the official title of the County Chief.
“The purpose of the competitions is to identify, nurture, promote and develop youth talents and the events are forerunners to the celebrations of the Kabaka’s Birthday. We are also using this particular competition as a forerunner and fishing ground for Bika and Masaza competitions which start later on.” – Oweek. Serwanga
Fixtures and play dates defer per County, but shall all be played between 27th January and 6th April 2024.
