The Minister launching the year's calendar

Ggombolola Cup to kickstart an eventful kingdom sports calendar.

The Ministry of Youth Sports and the Arts has today launched its calendar of activities covering a range of sporting events in both traditional and contemporary sports. 

The year opens with the Ggombolola Cup on 27th January 2024, a new addition to the official ministry calendar and fore runner of all football and netball competitions of the year. The event, played by the sub counties (Ggombololas) with in a County (Saza) and named after the official title of the Saza chief. 

The Ggombolola Cup ends on 6th April leading into the Bika Competitions running from 20th April to 8th June, picking up the Masaza cup from 22nd June – 26th October 2024 to complete the footballing calendar. 

Speaking during the launch at Bulange Mengo, Oweek. Robert Serwanga Ssalongo the Minister of Youth, Sports and the Arts informed the various stakeholders present about the kingdom’s resolve to use sport as a tool for development and service delivery by promoting activity at Ggombolola level, hence the ministry’s 175 strategy. “We are presenting our programs early and calling on all partners and friends to walk this journey with us.”- Oweek. Serwanga 

Other scheduled sports activities include schools’ competitions, 5 cycling tours, Boxing, Mweso, Nkuyo, Golf, Rugby, Volleyball, Traditional Boat Racing (Royal Regatta), Games for Kingdom departments and the Sports Awards.
